On This Day, March 10: Lee Boyd Malvo sentenced to life for D.C. sniper shootings

March 10 (UPI)– On this date in history:

In 1862, the U.S. Treasury provided “legal tender notes” in denominations from $5 to $1,000, the very first U.S. paper currency.

In 1876, Alexander Graham Bell sent the very first telephone message to his assistant in the next space: “Mr. Watson, come here. I desire you.”

In 1880, the Salvation Army of the United States was established in New York City.

In 1933, Harry W. Frantz, a reporter for United Press, penned an editorial on the existing monetary scenario, arguing that the history of the United States “highly recommends the possibility of a timely recovery from today banking and cash crisis.”

In 1959, more than 300,000 Tibetans, fearing the Chinese were outlining to snatch the Dalai Lama, surround his home in Lhasa, the Potala Palace, marking the start of the Tibetan uprising.

In 1969, James Earl Ray pleaded guilty to the assassination of civil liberties leader Martin Luther King, Jr. and was sentenced to 99 years in jail. Ray passed away in jail in 1998.

In 1993, an anti-abortion demonstrator shot and eliminated Dr. David Gunn at the Pensacola Women’s Medical Services center in Florida.

In 2004, Lee Boyd Malvo, 19, was sentenced to life in jail without parole for his function in 10 Washington-area sniper killings in 2002. His partner, John Allen Muhammad, thought about the mastermind, was performed in 2009.

In 2019, an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 Max 8 crashed soon after removing from Addis Ababa’s airport, eliminating all 157 aboard. Private investigators blamed the crash on defects in the aircrafts’ automatic flight software application, causing the grounding of all 737 Max airplane.

In 2023, Chinese President Xi Jinping was chosen to a 3rd five-year term. It made Xi the longest-serving leader of individuals’s republic given that its starting in 1949 and just the 2nd leader to serve more than 2 terms given that Mao Zedong.
