Toyota Land Cruiser was Japan’s Most Stolen Car in 2023, maintains top area for the 3rd year in a row.

Leading 10 list launched by General Insurance Association of Japan was controlled by Toyota and Lexus designs.

The leading 10 designs represent 55.7 percent of the overall 2,597 reported cases in between January 1st and December 31, 2023.

The list must come as not a surprise as 9 of the 10 automobiles are Made-in-Japan cars, other than for the Mercedes-Benz.

The Toyota Land Cruiser tops Japan’s Most Stolen Cars List in 2023, with the renowned SUV keeping the number-one area for the 3rd year in a row, according to General Insurance Association of Japan (GIAJ).

According to the 24th edition of GIAJ’s “Fact-Finding Survey on Automobile Thefts”, the Toyota Land Cruiser (consisting of the Prado) was reported taken 383 times while the Toyota Alphard minivan came 2nd with 364 cases.

In the Top 10 most taken automobiles list controlled by Toyota and Lexus designs, the Prius came 3rd followed by LX, Hiace and Crown, with 307, 120, 60 and 53 reported cases respectively.

Others automobile designs in the list are Toyota Vellfire Minivan, Lexus RX, Toyota Harrier (rebadged Lexus RX) and Mercedes-Benz (design not defined), with 43, 42, 37 and 37 reported cases respectively.

According to reports, the vehicle thefts took place primarily in the evening in poorly lit locations in between 10:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m., representing 58.4% of the time.

The leading 10 designs represent 55.7 percent of the overall 2,597 reported cases in between January 1st and December 31, 2023, which is a little below the 2,656 taken cars and trucks in 2022. The list needs to come as not a surprise as 9 of the 10 vehicles are Made-in-Japan lorries, other than for the Mercedes-Benz.
