According to CNN, United States District Court Judge Charles Simpson dismissed charges versus previous investigator Joshua Jaynes and previous officer Kyle Meany. The outlet keeps in mind that in 2022, the set were charged with “sending an incorrect affidavit,” which triggered the deadly search of Taylor’s home on March 13, 2020.
Furthermore, the set were implicated of developing a “incorrect cover story in an effort to get away obligation for their functions” in developing the search warrant with “incorrect info.” The set’s preliminary charges apparently brought life sentences. To keep in mind, TMZ reports that neither officer existed throughout the raid.
On Thursday, August 22, Judge Simpson apparently stated that the search warrant did not lead to Taylor’s death. Rather, Simpson supposedly specified that Taylor’s partner, Kenneth Walker, shooting his weapon at officers was “the legal cause” of her death.
“There is no direct link in between the warrantless entry and Taylor’s death,” the court’s judgment checks out, per the outlet. “Taylor’s death was proximately brought on by the way in which the warrant was performed. [Kenneth Walker’s] choice to open fire, as declared and argued, was the natural and likely repercussion of performing the warrant at 12:45 a.m. on ‘an unwary family.’ That choice triggered the return fire, which struck and eliminated Taylor.”
According to TMZ, Jaynes still deals with “2 counts of falsification of records, conspiracy to falsify records, and witness tampering” charges in the case. Meany apparently deals with “one charge of [making] incorrect declaration to federal private investigators.” The outlet includes that Jaynes might still provide to 40 years in jail while Meany might still provide to 5.
