Fate/Zero is a prequel unique series to Type-Moon’s Fate/stay night visual unique video game, fixating the Fourth Holy Grail War and its cast of characters, the significant occasions of which lead straight to the Fifth Holy Grail War in Fate/stay night. The narrative mainly centers on Kiritsugu Emiya, a professional “mage killer” appointed by a popular mage household to be a contending Master in the Holy Grail War, as he is torn in between his practical utilitarianism, his love for his spouse and child, and the sacrifices he need to make to win.
Nitroplus author Gen Urobuchi initially worked together with Type-Moon as a visitor author on the Fate/hollow ataraxia fan disc. Fate/Zero followed conversation with Type-Moon author Kinoko Nasu and artist Takashi Takeuchi, and was at first offered as a four-book dōjin work under Type-Moon from Comiket 71 to 73 (December 2006 to December 2007). Star Seas Company later on provided the books commercially in a six-book bunkoban edition in January to June 2011.
The books later on influenced both a tv anime and a manga adjustment. The television anime ranged from October 2011 to June 2012, and was the very first time that ufotable would produce an anime in Type-Moon’s Fate franchise, causing later on partnerships. The anime streamed on Neon Alley with an English dub, and the series streamed on Crunchyroll as it aired. Shinjirō released the manga in Kadokawa’s Young Ace publication in 2011, and ended it in May 2017. Dark Horse Comics certified the manga in 2014.
