Ronald Hale Thigpen was born upon Jan. 2, 1946, in Grand Rapids, Mich., to daddy James Ray Thigpen, Sr. and mom Elinor Jane Doerr Thigpen. He went to Furman University and appeared in plays with Columbia's Trustus Theatre, which was begun by his sibling and sister-in-law, Jim and Kay Thigpen.
