Selena Gomez and sweetheart Benny Blanco revealed their engagement today, and perhaps nobody is more delighted for them than Stephen Colbert. He absolutely does desire all the credit for making it occur.
The CBS host started his monologue on Thursday night commemorating the news, and fawning over love being in the air.
“Congratulations to both Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco, or as they're understood by their celeb couple name: Selena Gomez,” he joked.
Colbert then right away advised audiences that Gomez was in fact on the program recently, and throughout that look, Colbert called out Blanco straight.
“Benny, you must believe you're quite unique if you believe you can do much better than this, OK?” the host stated at the time, indicating Gomez. “And as America's father, I need to know what your intents are with America's child, right over here.”
Gomez was flabbergasted to be provided the title of “America's child,” however she chuckled along and thanked Colbert for the kind words.
On Thursday night, Colbert replayed that clip for everybody, and drew his conclusion.
“Now, I do not wish to take any credit for this engagement,” he stated. “No. I wish to take all the credit for this engagement. I suggest, that appears reasonable. That appears reasonable! I'm not stating he didn't ask her or she didn't state yes, they had something to do with it!”
“But I'm the one who loosened up the cover on the pickle container of dedication,” he included with a chuckle. “You're welcome.”
