With races now coming thick and quick as we get in the start of the season, Challenge Family began their calendar in New Zealand with Challenge Wanaka.
On the South Island, home star Kyle Smith and Dutch pro Els Visser took home the titles after 2 commanding success over the middle range.
Sharing their ideas after the race, both professional athletes were pleased to have an excellent day and anticipate much more success throughout the remainder of the season.
“I’m extremely stired to take the win here”
For Visser, the win was made sweeter by the truth that she had simply fell brief in 2015, where she ended up second behind Australian Grace Thek.
“I’m incredibly stired to take the win here, particularly after taking 2nd in 2015, so it’s excellent to be back and to take the win is additional unique.
“I understood I had some work to do after the swim, Rebecca [Clarke] is simply an extraordinary swimmer so I had some work to do and I needed to close a minimum of 4 minutes.
“I understood with the tough bike course, which was incredibly tough and the run also, that I might be client and race my own race.
“I was a little stunned I closed the space so well on the bike, at about 40km I had actually currently closed 4 minutes and I simply kept pressing and pressing and felt truly excellent.
“Luckily as soon as I got on to the run I had the ability to enjoy it a bit. The environment here is remarkable and it was simply an unbelievable day.”

For Smith, the race win marked a strong go back to training and racing after falling ill a month and a half ago with Covid-19.

“It was among those wonderful days truly, you do not get much of them in your profession which was most likely the very best I’ve ever had in 3 years, because the start of 2021.
“It was a total efficiency for me which I have not created in a while and I felt truly great today coming out of the water with a little lead.
“I wasn’t sure what to anticipate after having Covid 6 weeks earlier, however I’ve had an actually excellent training school down here in Wanaka with Braden [Currie] and today I had the ability to put all of it together.”
