Abramovich Pledged $3 Billion for Ukraine War Victims. The Cash Is Frozen in the U.K.

Funds from the sale of Chelsea FC are being in a U.K. savings account amidst a conflict in between the oligarch and Britain

LONDON– Two weeks after Russian tanks rolled into Ukraine, Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich stated he would offer his soccer club Chelsea FC and contribute the billions of dollars in earnings to the victims of the war in Ukraine. At the time, it appeared a classy service for a billionaire under growing examination in the West for his ties to Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

More than a year and a half later on, the $3 billion contribution is sitting frozen in a U.K. bank account amidst a long-running conflict with the British federal government over how the large amount ought to be invested.
