In a stunning occurrence recorded on video camera, David Grinblat, 35, apparently introduced a harsh attack on Sheharyar Ali Kazmi, 25, in Midtown Manhattan on August 5. The attack, which is being examined as a hate criminal activity, happened near Rockefeller Center on Fifth Avenue. Grinblat, a homeowner of Brooklyn, apparently approached Kazmi, who was participated in a telephone call, and spat on him while tossing negative slurs.
According to Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Matthew Bayley, Grinblat called Kazmi a “terrorist” and a “f– king Muslim,” before requiring that he go back to Asia. The scenario intensified even more when Grinblat continued to punch Kazmi numerous times in the face. Kazmi, who handled to tape the run-in on his phone, followed Grinblat into the Fifth Avenue/53rd Street train station, where the aggressor continued his spoken attack, screaming “Death to all Muslims!” and physically assaulting Kazmi as soon as again.
Grinblat ran away the scene however was collared 3 days later on at his house. Court records expose that he has 2 previous criminal mischief cases in Brooklyn, consisting of an event where he supposedly tossed a glass bottle of white wine through a window panel. Kazmi, who sustained a bloodied lip and a facial cut, pushed charges versus Grinblat, leading to his indictment on 2 counts of attack in the 3rd degree as a hate criminal activity and worsened harassment.
Regardless of district attorneys' ask for a $30,000 bail, Grinblat was launched on monitored release after his arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court. The choice was supported throughout his subsequent arraignment in Supreme Court, where Judge Laura Ward gave his release based upon his compliance with court orders. Grinblat's attorney, Geoffrey Bickford, argued for his customer's release, highlighting his performance history of sticking to court requirements.
