Federal examination starts of deadly Florida crane collapse; bridge resumes

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP)– Federal task security authorities started their examination Friday into the collapse of a crane in downtown Fort Lauderdale that eliminated one employee, hurt 3 individuals and left early morning traffic snarled.

Detectives from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will attempt to identify what triggered Thursday afternoon’s collapse that crushed 2 vehicles on a hectic bridge that crosses the New River nearby to the Broward County Courthouse.

The bridge resumed after heavy traffic Friday. A court house representative stated operations were not impacted.

Mark Cerezin, the chauffeur of among the crushed automobiles, informed the South Florida Sun Sentinel that he felt something was incorrect and knocked on his brakes. A “huge, big, huge piece of blue steel” struck his automobile, bounced off the bridge and onto the other cars and truck. He left his vehicle “in a state of shock.”

“I’m simply grateful to be able to go home to my partner and to my pals,” he informed the paper.

Fort Lauderdale Police recognized the eliminated employee as Jorge De La Torre, 27. Cops stated he had actually been dealing with the structure that is under building when the collapsing crane triggered him to fall.
