Dec. 11 (UPI)– Hong Kong’s very first district elections purged of opposition political leaders under an overhaul of the elections system saw a record-low citizen turnout of 27.5%, according to main election information.
The so-called Patriots Only district elections were held Sunday, and brought in about 1.19 million qualified citizens to cast tallies, regardless of ballot hours being reached midnight due to a system problem with the Electronic Poll Register.
The turnout out is not just a record low however is a terrific decrease from the 71% of signed up citizens, or almost 3 million individuals, who cast tallies throughout the last election of 2019, which took place throughout demonstrations in the previous British nest over a proposed extradition law.
