In 1985, popular song super star Michael Jackson advised his lawyer, John Branca, to bid for the Northern Songs music brochure, which consisted of the tunes of the Beatles. In a tough settlement, Branca protected the rights to the collection.
Over the next 3 years, initially as Jackson's lawyer and later on as the administrator of his estate, Branca carried out various complex settlements to protect and broaden Jackson's music publishing empire up until it ended up being the biggest music releasing business worldwide.
