Josh Brolin is reviewing a tense minute he had with Denzel Washington on the set of American Gangster.
In an interview on theIn Depth with Graham Bensingerthe Dune: Sequel star remembered a minute when he stated he felt he and Washington were going to get into a run-in.
“Denzel and I, by the method, get along extremely well now,” he stated before sharing the anecdote from set. “We practically entered a battle.”
In the 2007 movie, Brolin played Detective Trupo, who is examining Washington's character Frank Lucas, a Harlem drug dealership in the '60s and '70s. While recording, there was a heated minute Brolin declared after Washington altered Brolin's line for a scene at the last minute.
“Denzel was a little late to set and there was an entire thing there,” Brolin stated. “And then he revealed me the lines … he didn't alter any of my lines, however he type of altered the structure of it. He stated, ‘I believe I'm gon na put this down here and I'm gon na put that up there.' He would not actually look at me.”
“So I was attempting to bear in mind the structure, and after that we practiced. It wasn't that lots of lines, primarily my own. And I'm expected to be extremely positive,” Brolin stated. “It's Denzel Washington, guy. It's, like, challenging. You're simply this star who they're experimenting with, seeing if he's the genuine thing or not. And I forgot a line.”
“And I put my hand on his shoulder and I stated, ‘What's the line?' and he strikes my hand off and he stated, ‘Don't ever fucking put your hand on me,'” Brolin declared. “And I resembled, ‘Holy shit, I'm gon na ditch with Denzel Washington. This is insane.' We're not stars any longer … a minimum of in my mind. In his mind he was simply doing his task.”
Brolin described that it appeared Washington was welcoming his character while on set: “He was that guy. He was Frank Lucas, duration. I didn't understand.”
“And then we survived that minute. I stated, ‘Are you fine?' He stated, ‘Yeah. You?' I stated, ‘Yeah. Can I get my line?' He stated, ‘Go for it.' It's like he ‘d stated what he required to state.”
In spite of the tense minute, Brolin stated he and Washington saw each other at an occasion to which Washington welcomed him warmly.
In addition to Washington, Brolin starred inAmerican Gangsteralong with Russell Crowe, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Lymari Nadal. Ridley Scott directed the movie. Scott and Washington just recently reunited for the Gladiator II movie.
