Mandisa, Grammy-winning vocalist and ‘American Idol’ alum, passes away at 47

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP)– Mandisa, a modern Christian vocalist who appeared on “American Idol” and won a Grammy for her 2013 album ‘Overcomer’, has actually passed away. She was 47.

An agent for the vocalist informed The Associated Press that the vocalist was discovered dead in her home in Nashville, Tennessee, on Thursday. The agent stated the reason for Mandisa’s death was not yet understood.

Mandisa, whose complete name was Mandisa Lynn Hundley, was born near Sacramento, California, and matured singing in church. She acquired fame after completing ninth on “American Idol” in 2006.

As she left, host Ryan Seacrest informed the vocalist that she was “a fantastic spirit on the program.”

Mandisa proceeded, launching her launching album in 2007 called “True Beauty,” which got a Grammy election that year for finest pop and modern gospel album.

She went on to launch 5 more albums, consisting of a Christmas album.

In 2014, she won a Grammy for finest modern Christian music album for “Overcomer,” her 5th album.

Mandisa spoke honestly about her battles with anxiety, launching a narrative entitled “Out of the Dark: My Journey Through the Shadows to Find God’s Joy” in 2022 that detailed her experiences with extreme anxiety, weight-related difficulties, the coronavirus pandemic and her faith.

On Friday, the Christian radio network K-Love commemorated the vocalist on social networks, stating: “Mandisa had a hard time, and she was susceptible adequate to share that with us, which assisted us speak about our own battles.”
