Regardless of speculation the San Francisco 49ers might pursue Kirk Cousins if the Atlanta Falcons ultimately launched the veteran after benching him for Michael Penix Jr., they are apparently “dedicated” to their existing quarterback.
“They are devoted to making Brock Purdy operate in San Francisco,” Dianna Russini of The Athletic stated Tuesday on the Scoop City podcast (8:45 mark). “Could things alter? Obviously.”
Purdy is under agreement through the 2025 season and is in line for a substantial raise when he signs his next offer. He is set to make $1.1 million in base wage in 2025, which is the last year of his novice agreement.
Still, this has actually been a forgettable season for Purdy and the 49ers, who are simply 6-9 and gotten rid of from playoff contention. Injuries are partly to blame for the general group battles, and the signal-caller has actually finished 65 percent of his passes for 3,487 lawns, 17 goals and 10 interceptions.
That is a dropoff from his Pro Bowl project in 2023 when he finished 69.4 percent of his passes for 4,280 lawns, 31 goals and 11 interceptions.
San Francisco’s battles were amplified throughout a 12-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Dec. 12, and one NFL executive informed Mike Sando of The Athletic, “The brand-new agreement for Purdy [in the offseason] was a slam dunk for me till Thursday night. What I saw was a guy who was so restricted physically that, I’m not stating I do not desire him, it’s simply the very first time I’ve stated, ‘Hmmm, he can’t make those tosses.'”
Purdy still led the 49ers to the NFC Championship Game and Super Bowl in the last 2 seasons and is simply 24 years old.
Russini’s report painted an image of a group that still thinks in him as a franchise quarterback and is prepared to make a dedication to keep him in location.
