In April, in the Bay Area town of Alameda, researchers were making strategies to obstruct the sun. Not completely or completely, naturally: Their experiment consisted of a gadget created to spray a sea-salt mist off the deck of a docked attack aircraft carrier. The light-reflecting aerosols, the researchers hoped, would await the air and briefly cool things down in the location. It would have been the very first outside test in the United States of such a maker, had the city board not shut it down before the experiment was concluded. Among the objectives of the experiment was to see if such a technique may ultimately reveal a method to alleviate worldwide warming.
