A note from Scott: As 2024 ends, things might seem peaceful in business, however this is simply the calm before a large storm.
New Year's Day is on Wednesday. Precisely a week after that, on Jan. 8, Oscar election ballot will start (it goes through Jan. 12). And in between those 2 dates, the Palm Springs International Film Festival will hold its awards gala in the desert (Jan. 3), the Golden Globe Awards event will occur in L.A. (Jan. 5), and the National Board of Review will distribute its rewards in New York (Jan. 7).
This is all hot on the heels of the Academy exposing its shortlists for 10 classifications (Netflix's Emilia Pérez scored the most points out with 6) and the subsequent disqualification of among the shortlisted initial tunes, "...
