Throughout his keynote address at the National Conservatism Conference this previous summertime, Missouri senator Josh Hawley provided an unapologetic screed entitled "The Christian Nationalism We Need." It contacted his listeners to safeguard and reinforce the "typical faith" upon which the U.S. was presumably established, and to "restore" their dedication to its cause. "Some will state now that I am calling America a Christian country," Hawley intoned from the podium. "And so I am. And some will state I am promoting Christian nationalism. Therefore I do.
