Professionals Wrestle Over Uses of PFAS During Senate Hearing
Professionals tussled over the requirement for more powerful policy of so-called "permanently chemicals," with some Republicans and one industry-backed witness raising issues about unexpected repercussions of a blanket restriction, throughout a subcommittee hearing on Thursday.
There are apparently over 14,000 type of per- and polyfluoroalkyl compounds (PFAS), the chemicals discovered in whatever from nonstick fry pans and water resistant mascara, to semiconductors.
"It's difficult to prevent PFAS," stated Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), chair of the Subcommittee on Chemical Safety, Waste Management, Environmental Justice and Regulatory Oversight, keeping in mind that their toughness and resistance to ecological processing make them "an ecological catastrophe."
