Tesla is laying off more than 10 percent of its labor force worldwide.
This is according to a company-wide e-mail sent out to Tesla workers by CEO Elon Musk. The e-mail was initially reported on by Electrek.
In the e-mail, Musk lays the blame on the business's quick development, which triggered “duplication of functions and task functions in particular locations.”
“As we prepare the business for our next stage of development, it is incredibly essential to take a look at every element of the business for expense decreases and increasing efficiency. As part of this effort, we have actually done a comprehensive evaluation of the company and made the tough choice to lower our headcount by more than 10 percent internationally,” the e-mail states.
“There is absolutely nothing I dislike more, however it should be done. This will allow us to be lean, ingenious and starving for the next development stage cycle,” composed Musk.
What Musk does not point out is that the layoffs followed a tough quarter for Tesla, in which the carmaker's shipments and earnings fell well off forecasted figures.
The news follows reports that Tesla is preparing to lay off as much as 20 percent of its labor force. Musk's phrasing (more than 10 percent) suggests that less individuals will be fired than the reported figure, though it does not expose just how much, precisely.
