Paris-based Loco Films has actually boarded “Paying For It,” Canadian helmer Sook-Yin Lee (“Octavio is Dead!”)'s adjustment of Chester Brown's very popular graphic book. The film is world premiering at Toronto Film Festival in the competitive Platform area.
Co-written by Lee and Joanne Sarazen (“Backspot,” “Tammy's Always Dying”), the live action motion picture stars Dan Beirne (“Twentieth Century,” “Priscilla”), emerging star Emily Lê (“Riceboy Sleeps”), and well-known activist, author and entertainer Andrea Werhun (“Modern Whore, Thriving: A Dissociative Reverie”).
The movie checks out the styles of love, sex and non-monogamy for grownups. It's embeded in the late 90s and focuses on Chester, a shy cartoonist who begins sleeping with sex employees and finds a brand-new type of intimacy after his sweetheart, Sonny, chooses to redefine their dedicated relationship.
“Paying For It” is produced by Matt Code of Wildling Pictures, whose credits consist of “See for Me,” “Mary Goes Round” and the upcoming “Young Werther;” in addition to Sonya Di Rienzo (“Brother,” “The Young Arsonists,” “The Players”) and Aeschylus Poulos (“Mr. Dressup: The Magic of Make-Believe,” “Brother,” “Sleeping Giant”) of Hawkeye Pictures; with the involvement of Telefilm Canada, Ontario Creates and in association with Bell Media's Crave and CBC Films. Co-producers are Natalie Urquhart (“Suits,” “Stardust”), and Lee; and executive manufacturers are Dan Beirne and John Cameron Mitchell (“Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” “Shortbus”).
