U.S. Department of Agriculture Statement on East Coast and Gulf Coast Ports

WASHINGTON, Oct. 1, 2024– Today, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) launched the following declaration in action to labor conflicts at East Coast and Gulf Coast ports:

“The Administration is acting to keep an eye on and deal with prospective effects on customers due to labor disagreements at East Coast and Gulf Coast ports. Our analysis reveals we need to not anticipate considerable modifications to food costs or schedule in the near term. Thanks to the usually smooth motion through the ports of items, and our strong domestic farming production, we do not anticipate lacks anytime in the future for a lot of products. Non-containerized bulk export deliveries, consisting of grains, would be untouched by this strike. For meat and poultry products that are exported through East and Gulf Coast ports, offered storage area and re-direction of items to alternative domestic and global markets can reduce a few of the pressure on farmers and food mill. We are watching on downstream effects in the west, and we will continue to keep an eye on and deal with market to react to possible effects. Our Administration supports cumulative bargaining as the very best method for employees and companies to come to a reasonable contract, and we motivate all celebrations to come to the bargaining table and work out in great faith– relatively and rapidly.”
