Upkeep on High-Speed Wind Tunnel

Osvaldo R. Sosa Valle

May 15, 2024

Throughout April and May 2024, upkeep is being performed within the Unitary Plan Wind Tunnel (UPWT) complex at NASA Ames Research Center. One essential part of this upkeep is the evaluation of stators in the 3-stage compressor. Stators are repaired blades that manage the circulation of air, which can reach a speed of Mach 1.4 (about 1100 miles per hour in air at 100F) within the UPWT. Blade resonance of the stators might be accountable for considerable wear on the compressor. The figure listed below programs the opening of the stator clamshell to make it possible for that assessment.
