Wind-powered freight ship takes Europe’s Ariane 6 rocket to launch website

After many obstacles, the European Space Agency just recently revealed that its next-generation rocket, Ariane 6, is set to introduce in simply 6 months’ time. If effective, the heavy-lift launcher will bring back the continent’s independent access to area satellites.

Now, different parts of the rocket, integrated in factories throughout Europe, require to be carried throughout the Atlantic Ocean to be put together at ESA’s spaceport in French Guiana. This oversea area is– in the meantime– home to Europe’s just active spaceport.

To take on the job, ArianeGroup, which lags the rocket, commissioned the building and construction of a custom-made vessel called Canopée. The business declares it is the world’s very first hybrid commercial freight ship powered by wind.

6 years in the making, the vessel has 4 enormous “Oceanwings” that help the diesel motor when in movement, cutting fuel intake by around 30%.
