After a pandemic boom and a post-pandemic bust, the comics and graphic unique market came roaring back in 2024.
A number of the greatest and finest books from the Big Two (aka Marvel and DC) were re-imaginings and mash-ups of their finest understood heroes. Spider-Man, however wed with kids? Batman, however with his mommy still alive? Yes and yes. DC fulfills Video game of ThronesDC heroes in the Wild West or Victorian Age Metropolis? Sure, why not?
The pattern of certified books crescendoed this year as IDW rode Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to brand-new heights, with the heroes starring in among 2024’s most significant comics. Dynamite Entertainment opened the floodgates with Barbarella, Terminator Thundercat, and more. Robert Kirkman’s Skybound stepped on the gas on its Hasbro license, putting out G.I. Joe start mini-series such as Duke and Cobra Commander that were more enjoyable and understandable than they ought to have been, all leading up to the relaunch of a Joe book at the end of the year. (Don’t fret, we’ll get to Transformers down below.)
Readers tried to find convenience in the familiar in 2024. That would usually be an issue, however this year, a number of those stories were really well done and boundary-pushing.
Creativity originated from all sorts of graphic books along with Image, where ex-DC veterinarian Geoff Johns revealed his Ghost Machine imprint, filled with a few of the very best skills in the comics biz. (Rook: Exodus is a standout).
It’s a near-impossible job to sort through the numerous waves of comics that are available in weekly from the standard publishers, not to point out the graphic books that can be found in all types and for any ages from numerous book departments. Here is a brief list of what we’ve enjoyed in 2024.

Below the Trees Where Nobody Goes
Writer-artist: Patrick Horvath
Publisher: IDWFilmmaker and artist Partick Horvath takes a Dexter technique to the designs of Beatrix Potter or Richard Scarry. Samantha Strong is a serial killer living a comfortable life in a town with an extremely easy guideline: do not abduct and eliminate the residents. When a towns individual reveals up dead, it does not take long for Samantha to understand that there’s another serial killer in town. Now she needs to find out who it is– and how to stop them before the doggone constable reaches her way of life.
Samantha is a bear, and the book is grisly, made even more nasty due to the fact that talking animals are doing the grunt work. Horvath’s watercolor-like art offers the reader an incorrect sense of a security blanket even as he draws blood.
It’s exceptionally legible and a page-turner up until completion.
